Five DeGroote faculty inducted into Quarter Century Club

The Quarter Century Club recognizes McMaster employees and faculty who have achieved 25 years of service with the University. Five members of the DeGroote community were inducted into the Quarter Century Club on Monday, Nov. 14, 2011.
Yufei Yuan
Professor Information Systems
Yufei Yuan was appointed as Wayne C. Fox Chair in Business Innovation in 2002-2008. He served as Chair of the Management Science and Information Systems Area July 1996-June 1999. His research interests are in the areas of mobile commerce, emergency response systems, web-based negotiation support systems, security and privacy, business model of electronic commerce, fuzzy logic and expert systems, matching problem, and information systems in health care. In 2009, Yuan was awarded DeGroote’s Faculty Research Excellence award. In his personal time, Yufei enjoys photography, swimming and golf.
Yee-Ching Lilian Chan
Professor and Chair Accounting and Financial
Management Services
Lilian Chan currently serves as chair of the Accounting and Financial Management Services Area at DeGroote, a position she has held since July 2007. This is Lilian’s third time as area chair. In her work, Lilian specializes in cost and management accounting. Her research focuses on hospital costing and the application of new management tools in hospitals. She has also conducted research on the performance measurement system and implementation of balanced scorecard in municipal governments. She teaches courses in managerial accounting and controllership. Reading and travelling are two of Lilian’s personal interests.
Rick D. Hackett
Professor and Canada Research Chair Human
Resources Management
Rick has served as co-developer of a PhD program in Human Resources & Management, PhD coordinator, Editor in Chief of the Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences, Associate Dean, Senior Advisor to the Dean and Interim Dean. These administrative appointments helped inform his research in the areas of leadership and organizational behavior. Currently he is in his second term as a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair. Rick’s personal interests include hiking, reading, music, theatre, jogging, traveling and down-hill skiing. He particularly enjoys down-hill skiing with his two sons, Aaron and Tyler, and attending theatre with his wife Patti.
Mahmut Parlar
Professor Operations Management
Mahmut Parlar was hired as an associate professor in 1986 and became professor in 1990. From 1988-1992 and again from 1996-2000 he served as PhD coordinator for DeGroote’s Management Science/Systems area. Mahmut was area chair of Management Science/Information Systems from 2002-2007. In his research, Mahmut specializes in the applications of operations research techniques to supply chain management decisions. Mahmut’s son recently received his McMaster PhD in Software Engineering, and last year his younger daughter started her McMaster PhD in NeuroScience. His older daughter also has a McMaster degree in anthropology.
Wayne Taylor
Professor Strategic Market Leadership & Health Services Management
Upon joining McMaster in 1986, Wayne Taylor served as the director of the Health Services Management specialization in the MBA program. His current research focuses on the impact that demographic realities will have on health and social services over the next 20 years, as well as the democratic deficit that is permeating Canadian healthcare. Before joining McMaster, Wayne worked as a senior executive in both the private and public sectors. He has over thirty years' of experience working with managers in long-term care, acute care, public health and health policy planning in Canada, the United States, Europe and the Third World.
