If you are looking to take a course at another university, make sure you fill out the request for a Letter of Permission (LOP) through Mosaic.

Things you need to know first:

  • LOPs are only for taking courses at another Canadian University.
  • LOPs are not required for McMaster courses.
  • You may only complete a maximum of 15 units of LOP coursework towards your degree.
  • Only non-commerce electives can be taken.
  • No more than 6 units of a minor can be from transfer credit/Exchange or LOP courses.
  • If you have transferred 42 units from another university you are not permitted to take courses on LOP.
  • First-year students are not permitted to take courses on LOP.
  • Second and third-year students are only permitted to take courses on LOP during the Summer term.
  • Final year students are permitted to take courses on LOP during the Fall and Winter terms.
  • You should meet with an Academic Advisor before a LOP request is submitted.
  • Students who wish to take courses at another university must complete the request for LOP through Mosaic.
  • Do not register for courses at the host university until you receive written permission from DSB Student Services.
