Paid Research Opportunity: Help Us Study Misinformation

The McMaster Digital Transformation Research Centre (MDTRC) is recruiting participants for a study led by Carl Michael Galang. The purpose of this study is to better understand how social media users’ emotions impact their ability to discern misinformation.

What will you do?

  • You will be asked to read 80 news headlines on a computer and rate their reliability. During the experiment, certain neurophysiological data will be tracked.

Location and time:

  • The study takes place in-person at the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington, and should take approximately 1–1.5 hours to complete.

Compensation:

  • Participants will receive a $50 gift card (e.g., Amazon) for completing the study.

Eligibility:

Participants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have no history of eye surgery
  • Have no vision or eye conditions such as cataract, amblyopia, strabismus, nystagmus, or eyelid ptosis
