Student Paper Competition: Building Better Financial Futures Challenge

September 11, 2023

Contributed by: Guillermo Murphy & Carolyn Colwell

The theme for this year’s Building Better Financial Futures competition is “Catalyze Action”, inspired by FCAC’s National Financial Literacy Strategy.

We are seeking undergraduate and graduate student papers that recommend an evidence-based solution to an existing problem in Canada’s financial ecosystem. In line with the competition’s theme, proposed solutions should be directed at finding ways to encourage Canadians to take positive financial actions. This may involve addressing biases and misunderstandings about how best to help people with financial challenges. Papers should include a relevant literature review, and a proposal for a study that could be conducted to test the effectiveness of the solution.

Participants are welcome to use FCAC datasets to conduct research for their papers. The anonymized data from the COVID-19 Financial Well-Being Survey, as well as FCAC’s 2019 Canadian Financial Capability Survey, and the 2018 Financial Well-being Survey are available upon request. Please contact competition@fcac-acfc.gc.ca.
