About

To conclude the 30th anniversary of Black History Month, we will host a celebratory closing event that honours the legacy, impact, and ongoing contributions of Black communities reinforcing the message that Black history is to be recognized and celebrated year-round. The event will feature a special film screening of Steadfast: Messenger and the Message, a powerful documentary highlighting the life and work of The Honourable Jean Augustine, a pioneering advocate, educator, and trailblazer in Canadian history who played a pivotal role in establishing Black History Month in Canada. Following the screening, attendees will be invited to engage in a fireside chat with The Honourable Jean Augustine herself, offering a rare opportunity to hear her insights, reflections, and experiences firsthand. Dr. Nicholas Braithwaite, McMaster’s new Chancellor, will also join us for this celebration! This milestone closing celebration aims to foster reflection, inspiration, and community connection, while affirming the enduring significance of Black history and its continued relevance beyond the month of February.
