About the Black History Month Planning Committee

The Equity and Inclusion Office’s Black History Month (BHM) Committee has partnered with the Black Student Success Centre to bring forth the Black History Month Logo Competition. This competition works towards establishing a longstanding logo for BHM initiatives at McMaster and creating a sense of community around programming and working towards the office’s mandate.

This competition will have three distinct periods, they can be referenced below:

  • Submission Period: December 15 – February 10
  • Review/Voting Period: February 16 – 20

Stage 1 – Reviewing (Screening Panel)

This stage of the competition will be conducted from selected BHM Committee representatives and an external brand and design reviewer. This will ensure the process remains equitable, accessible, and considers branding feasibility.

Stage 2 – Community Voting Period

The competition will now invite students, faculty and staff members to vote on designs from the shortlisted designs.

Winner Announced: February 26

The competition winner and their design will be unveiled live at the BHM 2026 closing event
