About

Keeping our Workplace Safe: An Intersectional Understanding of Intimate Partner Violence in the Workplace will be hosted by SVPRO as part of the Centring the Margins webinar series.

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a pervasive public health issue frequently extending into the workplace, affecting safety, wellbeing, and productivity. IPV has been known to have significant impacts on victim-survivors’ well-being, career, academics, and several other aspects of their lives.

About the Webinar

This webinar will explore the dynamics of IPV, equipping participants with the knowledge to recognize warning signs and respond with greater awareness and care. Grounded in an intersectional lens, the webinar will examine how multiple, intersecting identities influence experiences of IPV, access to support, and experiences of support services, specifically for marginalized communities. It will also explore how IPV can manifest within workplace settings, and the role employers and co-workers can play in fostering safer and more supportive environments.

Participants will gain:

  • A deeper, intersectional understanding of the signs and impacts of IPV
  • Insight into how IPV manifests within workplace environments
  • Awareness of unique risks and barriers experienced by marginalized communities
  • Practical considerations for creating more responsive and inclusive workplace response and supports

The session will include a 60-minute presentation by Deepa Mattoo (an award-winning intersectional feminist lawyer and CEO of YWCA Toronto) followed by a 30-minute Q&A, offering space for reflection, discussion, and engagement.
