On behalf of IBM’s Campus Talent Acquisition team, we are excited to invite students to attend IBM Canada’s Technical Workshops this February!
Workshop 1 – Practical Microservices:
Microservices? Cloud? Cloud-Native Development? We hear them often and they are everywhere in the industry these days. What are they? What’s the deal with them? Why should you care?
If you are interested or simply curious about any of these, come and join us!
In this workshop, we will attempt to demystify and offer you a practitioner’s perspective on what they are and why do they matter. You will have a chance to get your hands dirty and build your first Java microservice using Eclipse MicroProfile and Open Liberty, an open programming model and an open-source application server for microservices, as well as to dive deeper into various aspects of microservices!

- Thursday, February 8
- Time: 6:30-8:00 p.m. (ET)

Workshop 2 – Introduction to Containers with Docker and Open Liberty:
Learn the basic concepts of containerization. This session will cover how to start, stop and remove containers and how to create, remove, and version container images. In addition, we will talk about some best practices to follow when creating your own container images. We will use the Docker container engine and an application deployed on the Open Liberty server to demonstrate concepts of containerization. You will also get the chance to try it all yourself in the hands-on lab.
