Dr. Mahmut Parlar

Biography

Dr. Mahmut Parlar is a Distinguished University Professor and Business Research Chair for the DeGroote School of Business and is a Professor of Management Science. He was the inagurual Distinguished Business Research Professor from 2014 to 2023. Mahmut Parlar's research program is focused in the areas of stochastic modelling, dynamic optimization and game theory applications in supply chain management. His work in these areas has been supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) research grants since 1981 and have appeared in the form of nearly 130 refereed articles published in journals such as Operations Research, Management Science, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Naval Research Logistics, IIE Transactions, Transportation Science, Applied Mathematical Finance and others. Professor Parlar is the author of a book entitled "Interactive Operations Research with Maple" published in 2000 by Birkhäuser, Boston. Mahmut Parlar was awarded the inaugural DeGroote School of Business Faculty Research Excellence Award presented for the first time in March 2006. On September 6, 2013, Professor Parlar received the President's Award for Excellence in Graduate Supervision. Professor Parlar was the winner of the Dr. S. J. Basu Teaching Award for exceptional teaching (1st Year MBA-level) at the DeGroote School of Business (November 2014). On June 5, 2018, Professor Parlar received the CORS 2018 Award of Merit. I am listed in the "Stanford's Top 2% Scientists 2023" dataset. This "list is an emerging ranking that identifies scholars who are top-cited in their respective fields."
