Why DeGroote?
The DeGroote School of Business is highly reputed and acknowledged for its professors, curriculum as well as the stress that is laid on case-based learning. Having said that, DSB has a great diversity in class and students are randomly paired in learning groups which effectively helps in building connections with people from varying backgrounds. Additionally, DeGroote has a supremely well-knitted alumni network who have each other’s back in every possible situation.
Why an MBA?
Having worked for six years in varied fields whilst wearing different hats, I decided to step back into academia with a fresh perspective, wanting to carve a niche for myself. An MBA molds you to become a better leader and equips you with the skillset that further widens your avenues of growth.
What surprised you about DeGroote?
With my first year coming to a close, I’ve observed how the program is so strategically built. During the first semester, the course lays emphasis on developing and enhancing soft skills whereas in the second semester, the weight is moved heavily to academics and core subjects. I’ve had the chance to work alongside Co-op students as well as a full-time and it surprises me how both groups have varying ways to tackle projects and there’s something to learn from each and every peer. Holistically, every semester teaches you something valuable that makes you realize that you’re a part of an MBA program.
What piece of advice would you give to anyone considering doing their MBA at DeGroote?
Build strong networks, inside and outside of DeGroote! You’d be surprised to see the number of doors networking opens for you.
What has been the highlight of your DeGroote experience so far?
Coming from a strong start-up background, I was surprised to see myself interview for the biggest organizations in Canada where most of the interviewers were DeGroote Alums.
