December 3, 2024

Contributed by: Breanne Russell

What you need to know!

Fellows will spend a full year abroad divided into three terms:

  • The language learning term: where the fellow will take language courses, live with a host family, and volunteer at a local organization
  • The academic term: where the fellow will take a full-time course load with a university abroad (studying at a McMaster partner institution or studying on a Letter of Permission at the institution of the fellow’s choice)
  • The work term: where the fellow secures a full-time, paid placement or internship

This program recognizes the financial burden of moving to a different country, so the scope of financial support is broad and inclusive, including:

  • Monthly living stipend of $1,500 during the language and academic terms
  • Tuition costs through home university (if studying abroad through McMaster’s exchange program)
  • Travel and establishment allowance of $3,000
  • Language course allowance of up to $4,500
  • International medical insurance of up to $1,500
