The voices of hundreds of DeGroote first years and Greensuit reps could be heard around the McMaster campus during Welcome Week, growing louder as you approached events.
I AM AN M. I AM AN M-A. I AM AN M-A-C-C-O-M-M-I-E. AND IN MY QUEST TO BE THE BEST I WILL NOT SLEEP I WILL NOT SNOOZE. COMMIES ALWAYS WIN AND WE WILL NEVER EVER LOSE.
From carnivals to races, panel discussions on equity and academics, and even dodgeball showdowns, DeGroote students showed off their spirit, willingness to learn and all sorts of talents.
“University is about more than academics, it’s about discovering who you are, finding your passions and seizing every opportunity that comes your way,” said DeGroote School of Business Dean Khaled Hassanein to the students at Faculty Day. “There’s learning inside the classroom but the opportunities provided outside the classroom are equally important. Seize those opportunities.”
The week’s events held extra meaning for some upper-year Greensuit reps leading them – the cohort started at DeGroote during the height of the pandemic and didn’t have the traditional Welcome Week experience that they helped provide the incoming class of 2028.
Welcome Week culminated Friday at Air Bands with DeGroote’s Greensuits taking home the McMaster Student Union’s Faculty Cup for demonstrating superior spirit, presence and participation during Welcome Week.
