March 31 is the International Trans Day of Visibility, a time to celebrate trans people and raise awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide.
McMaster University has raised the trans flag above University Hall to mark the day.
“Today and every day, [we] are in solidarity with trans and gender-diverse students, staff, and faculty,” writes Rusan Lateef, associate director of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office in the university’s Office of Equity and Inclusion.
“We encourage members of the McMaster community to learn more about the experiences of transgender people, participate in programming dedicated to this community, and to challenge transphobia to create a safer and more inclusive campus.”
